FS: 1997 Mercury Mountaineer Solid Axle!

Sadly it's time to see her go.

For Sale: 1997 Mercury Mountaineer with a solid axle swap, $4,000 OBO
I'm selling this as I don't have the time needed to finish what I've started, and I'd like to see her go to a good home. I also don't have the time to get up in the mountains and wheel, so it doesn't do me a lot of good to look at it in the garage.

The Mods:
-Solid axle swap, front full width dana 44, completely rebuilt, chromoly shafts, rock crusher cover. Full size bronco long arm kit. Rear F150 8.8 with disc brakes and Detroit locker. The truck nets about 10" of lift!
-BW4406 manual conversion
-MAC intake
-Custom exhaust
-12" RF sub and kenwood head unit w/ sirius
-custom Turdle intake manifold
-custom Turdle rock sliders
-35x12.5 Goodyear MTRs less than 1000 miles!
Every component of the drive train from the driveshafts to the wheels is new with less than 1000 miles.

The good:
interior is leather, and in great shape. the transmission was replaced about 50k ago, the motor runs well, with new plugs, wires, radiator, water pump, oil pump, alternator, timing set, and all gaskets replaced except head gaskets and valve cover gaskets. All of this has been done in the last 20k. You're basically buying a new Mountaineer!

The not so good:
I'm still dialing in the SAS modification, so there are some clearance issues up front at full flex and full lock. Power steering reservoir is cracked, so there is a small drip.

PM me for more info and more pictures, thanks!

That is a nice looking ex and I wouldn't mind having having it but I only have about 3k to invest right now so I may have to stick with upgrading mine to this level.

Hey look in the first picture my Explorer is in the background in stock form. Sad to hear it has to go.

I have wheeled with him and it did great. My wife even rode in it on a nasty hill climb and really liked it. My GoPro had died so we didn't get video if the climb. Anyways sad to see it go but it was great to wheel with made it all look easy. (Want to do the same trail in my X's current state)

Woohoo! Its on the trailer and heading to my buddys house.

My buddy was pretty impressed with the deal I go t on this. Even his wife wanted to buy it. They are going to enjoy putting some miles on it for me. She is bummed though, she is pretty sure it won't fit in to the parking garage at work

We will be flying in on approximatly Thursday 8/23 to pick it up and heading homeword bound the following wed-thru. In the interum we will be doing a bit of visiting and wheeling in the CO area.

I am going to wait to do the regestries (Elite & SAS) until I get it back here and take some good pics of it.

Happy trails.

I hope you get to enjoy your new mountaineer as much as i did. Keep me updated, can't wait to see what you have in store. And though it might be a little while until i get to wheel again I'll keep in touch!

I'm just glad that the "Turdle rock sliders" didn't get the same treatment

My initial thought was that's gotta go, but now I am thinking that it is a pretty damm good conversation piece.

I hope so, after all, one mans rainbow is another man's full color spectrum.

Seriously, if you want to switch it out I would use it on my truck. Besides, it has to be under sunlight to "bling". In any sort of shade, which is most of the time under your hood,or on an overcast day, it will look like this:

And it looks like this under regular household lighting

I have an egr elbow hanging outside my garage which has this coating. It draws a lot of positive comments.
