hi all you ford heads. i have been reading this from for a while because every time i have a question about my exploder this place pops up. i have a 94 2wd drive x er that i have owend since 95. its been good to me but now it needs some tlc. i grew up on fords and have blowed a few up. Driver error. anyway if i can fix it it anit broke! money is tight these days and i do not want to buy a part that cost more than the nada says my love is worth. i need a a4ld transmission and have found some used ones but now that i am on my back trying to figure out how to get it out, is she really worth my pain of love for her. She has a 150000 miles of ford tuf truck under her belt no maintenance required. would like to breath some more life into her for a couple hundred bucks. anyway do i have to remove the exhaust to get the a4ld out? She still looks only a few years old. not ready to be a rat rod yet. p.s. i like motorcycles the parts are not as big.

Welcome to this forum! Remove the catalytic converter, then remove the transmission. Check the sticky thread in the transmission section on removing the transmission.
