I have a 95 ford ranger 2.3 liter and i am 90% positive the timing belt is a non-interference but my mechanic is telling me different. Does anyone know for sure if it is or not?

The Lima 2.3l is a non-interference engine.

Is your mechanic telling you that you're due for a timing belt?

No the timing belt broke in half. I took most of it apart but don't have the time or right tools to finish the job. He is trying to tell me it is an interference. So i called him back and told him it wasn't (for the second time) and just to replace the damn thing. He then tried to say his manual says that there is still a chance for head damage and he needs to explore with a scope. So I again told him to just replace the damn thing

Make a bet with him.
If he puts the belt on (RIGHT) and you're right that there is no engine damage, you only pay half the bill. If there is engine damage, he gets to charge you to pull the head and fix it.

Picked the truck up today and it is running terrible. Have not checked the positioning of the timing belt but they assured me that it was correct. They mentioned something about the catalytic converter. The car was running fine before the belt went out. Has anyone else had engine problems after replacing the timing belt? It feels like its skipping or running on two cylinders.

..It sounds to me like its off timing..

..It is common for one to mistake the dots for timing when they need to use the diamonds..There should be some more info in the link I posted earlier..

I have the same engine and my timing belt broke on me last summer. I had the same question about interference but I found out that it is not an interference engine.

I do remember that when I replaced my timing belt with my mechanic, that he was talking about a "180 off" deal. Basically he said that for every time the crank spins, the cam spins twice. When we first put everything together, it was "180 off" basically meaning we had to pull the belt off the cam, and spin it one full turn and put it all back on. It fired right up and worked perfectly after that. Maybe that has something to do with your issue? I wouldn't think it would run, though if that was your issue. I have no clue. The only thing I know for sure is that it is a non-interference engine.
