troublecode questions, please help!!!!

i have a 97 ford ranger 4.0L SOHC V6 w/ an automatic transmission, and i have the check engine light on, i had the codes read and i looked them up, this is what i got:

p1762- overdrive band failed off

p0401- EGR flow insufficient detected

now i am currently attending MMI orlando and i spoke to one of my instructors about the EGR sensor, we came to a conclusion of my TPS being out of whack too although the code may not show up. i went ahead and got the TPS sensor and the EGR is next.

my question is about the p1762 code, i intitially thought that the problem i was having with the transmission shifting was maybe the fluid is too high or my torque converter is going bad but i wanna know if this code could be the culprit. my instructor also told me this problem could be the shift solenoids.

please help, any advice is welcome and personal experience with this problem is a plus. feel free to email me or post on this thread. thanks again

- john

..You would definitely get more responses if we knew what motor /tranny you have..

..This might be of some interest on the 97 model yr. and the p1762 code..

okay i edited it and thanks, but im having a hard time reading the TSB.
in the symptoms part of that post it says no second or third gear, i wouldnt say i dont have those gears but shifting from 1st to 2nd and 2nd to 3rd is very ruff.

if i dont take it real easy on the throttle my rpms will go to 4,500 and when i back off to let it shift the gears slam. now i am driving this truck like an old lady so dont think im just being careless.

if you wouldnt mind could you explain it a little better.
