Where do you measure the temperature of the trans
I have a a4ld that I rebuilt, It works great. I installed the electric temp sending unit in the 1/8 pipe hole used for checking the pump pressure. The termp goes to 250 without much load. The question is to the experts in this forum; by measuring the temp at what is basically a dead end hyd circut does that represent the true temp of the trans and if not how much lower would it be if installed in the pan? I must saythat without this forum and the "diary" I never would have attempted my 1st overhaul of an auto trans.
Thanks:rangerred |

Dude 250 sounds very high. Brooklyn has tranny temp charts in his useful threads and it seems that anything over 200 is high. Read them and make up your own mind if you like. Sounds as though there is some slippage but I do not profess to be an expert.

..Here are a couple of the many threads here worth reading on the subject..
![]() http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=179884 http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=225103 ..Location does play a major role on where to read temps from..That first link discusses that a number of times.. ..However, the A4LD is a hotter running transmission and it is not unusual to see temps in the 190* range in the summer under somewhat of a load.. ...I have had mine spike on steep highway hill climbs and actually start to purge out the fill tube on one very steep freeway climb in the summer and the temp shot up to 210*.. ..Needless to say I avoid that ridiculously steep section of freeway..
