My Radio Kept Playing After I left My Vehicle .... Odd...

The other day I shut off my vehicle while the radio was playing , I removed the key from the ignition , opened my driver door and went to the back of the truck to open the rear hatch. As I approached the rear of the vehicle I used the key fob to open the rear hatch door. The rear hatch door opened and I proceeded to get the items that I was looking for. At that time I recall thinking to myself that someone else in the area was listening to the same song as I was listening to just prior to exiting my truck, and how odd it was that two people could be listening to the same radio station in the same parking lot. I then figured out that it was my radio that was still playing and the sound wasn't coming from a different vehicle. From the rear cargo area I could see that the key was not in the ignition and I couldn't figure out how my radio could still be playing after I exited the vehicle. The driver door was firmly closed and not ajar. I then closed the rear hatch and proceeded to re-open the driver's door and it seemed that the radio had shut off as I opened the driver door. This was the first time I've ever experienced this. I've tried to repeat the incident trying different ways of exiting the truck but it has not occurred again, every time I open the driver door the radio quits as it is supposed to, but that day it just kept playing. I thought that was odd.

Yes, this has happened to me as well. I don't know what causes it.

You're not losing it J, it's happening to me too since the MFT upgrade. It goes away when I get back in, start the vehicle to let the system load, and turn off the vehicle again. It's happened a couple of times now. Must have been missed during the beta testing process.

In a case like this I wonder if the radio will be turned off by the battery saver system?

Mine used to do that on ver 2.11 and did it again after the upgrade. Start the car again then shut everything off....stupid system!

I've had this happen a number of times on 2.4 and 2.11, but not on 3.0.2 yet. It shuts off eventually if you leave it.

I got a feeling it has something to do with you opening the hatch. That would be useful at the drive-in.
Whether or not it's intentional I have no idea, but I wouldn't worry about it

I've had the mft update , it has never happened before the update. It's not a big deal to me I just thought it was odd and kind of funny at the same time. I didnt have to restart the vehicle, only re-opened the driver door that did the trick. Thanks for all of the replies, that makes me feel better, I think.

The audio system stays 0perative until you open a door. It knows you opened a door from the pin switch on the door frame. This pin switch also turns on the interior lights.

if for whatever reason the pin switch was sticking in - then your radio will not shut off and your interior lights will not come one.

I suspect that opening the door the second time caused it to shut off normally - as it should. If it happens again see if the interior lights went on - if not fiddle with the door pin switch and see if that was the cause - I suspect it was...

Hey Alan...

I was wondering if you know the location of the switch in the Explorer?

When my friend was trying to figure out the lighting in his Edge, we were going to turn it out by pressing on the door switch manually as we had the door open. We couldn't find one ANYWHERE! lol. It is like they use a different method to determine if the doors are open or not.

Thanks

I just went out and checked mine, before I read your post so I could respond to Alan as well, and as far as I can tell, there is no visible door switch/pin. I wonder if it works with the actual door latch position?

Peter

I have had this happen as well. I think it happens when you open the door prior to turning off the car. Mine turns off when I use the remote lock.

I've had this happen also. I did notice the other day cleaning it with no keys or anything that you can turn the radio on and listen to music.

I'm assuming you have either the base or XLT. Neither your profile nor Vehicle Specs indicate the model. This may be normal but it doesn't sound right. In your sistuation will the Explorer's battery saver shut the radio down after 10 minutes with the ignition off?

I don't think this is it. This has happened to me a couple of times, and we haven't done the update yet on our '12 LTD. I'm pretty sure I have turned the car off with the door closed, opened the door, radio still playing, closed the door, radio still playing. I waited a couple of seconds without doing anything else and it finally shut off.
