4WD Selection Issues

Hi everyone, this is my first post so bare with me.

So recently purchased a 1996 Ford Explorer (v6) and am having selector issues in "Auto" 4wd. When it Auto, for a few minutes of driving after starting it seems to be stuck in "4x4" mode, and has noticeable binding when turning especially. After abit it goes away and seems to correctly go into "2wd mode" or whatever it is.

Just wondering if anyone can shed some light on what might be causing this and how to fix it.

Thanks Rick

Only thing I can think of would be to see if the transfer case sensors need cleaning. I would check that fluid real carefully also.

Thanks, could you give any guides to this?

And to update, the Low/High 4x4 lights flash at random times. Usually 6 times
