am radio static

I have a 2002 Ranger that has terrible AM radio reception because of engine static. I understand they no longer make alternator suppressors for engine static so what else, antenna ground, plug wires, ????? any help would be appreciated.

Is it just the FM, do you get the same static on CD/Tape?

It could be a few things, interference near the cable, alternator, or just some internal wiring on the radio. That would be a lot of work for an 2002 Ranger. Your best bet is this noise filter.
