US New guy, with two questions...

Hello fellow Exploreites, first let me say that I LOVE my 2013 Ginger Ale Limited AWD! I’ve got 1600 miles on her and have a couple of questions for the folks with more experience with their vehicles.

First, the little storage area with the USB ports has what looks to be an LED, but it doesn’t light up. I turned the dome lights on and still no light. Any ideas?

Second, after putting a couple of JPG wallpaper files into SYNC, I now have “red” buttons! I’m not sure why they changed and I can’t find a place to change them back to the original color… Help!

Thanks,
Greg

That light only comes on when the headlights are on.

A few others had the screen go red like that after loading pictures, I believe they had to do a reset (fuse pull) to correct the problem

Sure enough, it comes on with the headlights!
Thank you for the response!

Looks like you got a Windows 8 preview installed on your car, lol! I'm not sure what causes that graphics corruption, but I know that one other member on this forum reported seeing the same thing. Unfortunately I cannot recall now it was resolved. I'm sure someone will chime in to help you out

Welcome to the Forum SpiderMD.
Hi Greg. I see that you resloved your first issue.
For the second, if the screen stays this way after cycling the vehicle off and on again, You can try a Master Reset. I'm not sure if accomplishes the same thing but that is way easier than trying to squeeze under the dash to pull the fuse. The master reset can be found by selecting the 'Settings' icon to the right of the 'Home' icon. Then select, Settings/System/ Master Reset.
Good luck.

Peter

May be easier, but erases all navigation entries, and paired phones. It also has a bug in which it will erase the navigation favorites, but leave the voice tags, so you can't use those voice tags again. I hate the whole "master reset" thing

Thanks for that info 13Sport. I wasn't sure what all it did. I do know that there is probably no way I could get myself in position to pull the #29 fuse. If I tried, someone would likely have to bere to pull me out.

use the delayed restart app from outofmytouch.com instead of pulling the fuse.

I had this "orange button" thing happen to me after I put in a USB stick with MP3s on it. You can bring the buttons back to the original black by touching each one. A pain, I know... but easier than pulling a fuse, better than a master reset. Once I did this the orange buttons haven't come back.

Thank you all for the input! I changed my wallpaper to the FORD picture and then starting touching the red buttons one by one, changing them back to a more normal state. Then I got a call and turned the Ex off. Came back 20 min later and all was back to normal.
Thanks again!
Greg

P.S. weekend project.... MagnaFlow Cat-Back Performance Exhaust install.
What can i say... I'm a 54 year old kid!

Glad you got your issues solved Greg.
Before you change your exhaust, you may want to look at the following thread; http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...ght=air+filter

Not sure if it was the exhaust change that affected the Ex or not. I haven't found the original post yet. But anyway, good luck. Let us know how you make out.

Peter

Spider, I had the same issue, when I update the wall paper, I get the red buttons, domes yes or no, but found it easier to touch each one, it's a pain.

Hi, Greg!

A Master Reset will change the color back to the proper color. Here are the instructions:

MENU > SETTINGS > SYSTEM > MASTER RESET

Please let me know if you have any other questions, and congrats on your new ride!

Rebecca

Thank you Rebecca,
I used the touch method and changed them back to the original color one at a time, before I read about the reset... Anyway you guys keep building great vehicles and I'll continue buying them!

Spider MD: Where did you purchase the Exhaust? I'm a 66 year old kid and interested in one that might work for a 2013 Ginger Ale EBoost XLT. Surely some differances for a turbo, which I would need to research...... best regards Plum

Hello Plum, I got my exhaust at AutoShepherd and paid $631.87 Delivery was very fast and it was very well packed! Super easy to install, I didn't ever need to lift my Explorer, just crawled under it while it sat on the driveway!
I'm a very happy camper!

Hey Spider. I see that you did indeed gp ahead. Have you had it on long enough to get mileage figures. As mentioned before another owner changed both the exhaust and installed a K&N air filter and he noticed a drop in MPG's.
