when I go up Mt. Baker ( fairly steep incline ) my transmition kicks hard when shifting, this doesn't really happen around town or on the highway....... I have high miles, is the transmition just starting to go out, or is???????

I'm guessing that with the steep incline, you're pushing the gas pedal down pretty far and the engine is turning high rpm's to get up to speed. Under those conditions the transmission is supposed to shift harder than when driving around town and not giving it too much gas.
