Ok, I love my Explorer...but one thing annoys the hell out of me and I can't figure out how to turn it off.

When I exit the vehicle while it's running and shut the door, the horn chirps twice at me.

How do I shut this off?

I'm assuming you're trying to lock the key fob in it using the door lock switch? It's letting you know that it's inside. Use the outside keypad to lock it while running.

OMG! This is so annoying! The FOB is in my pocket and it does this. My 2011 didn't do this buy my 2013 does for some reason. I need to scour the owner's manual to see if there is a way to turn this off. I've resorted to just leaving the driver's door in an almost shut state to avoid the honks.

It is very annoying. I have been shutting off the engine while I get out of the vehicle for a few seconds to get the mail. I'll have to try almost shutting the door. So far, I haven't been able to find an answer in the manual, but it might be hidden there somewhere.

I am annoyed as well. If I forget something inside my house and my baby is sleeping, it will wake him up. Pretty stupid if there's no option to turn this off.

I can certainly see where this would be annoying in several way. When I walked away from my Highlander when it was still running, it only sounded a couple of chimes.
My 2011 doesn't signal anything at all. Is this just new in the Sport or do all 2013's have this now?

Peter

Wish I could find the remedy for this...

I went completely through the manual last night and could find no mention of this feature or how to turn it off! I don't understand the need for it! I'm to the point that I just leave the door not quite all the way shut if I'm hopping out real quick. I guess we should also find out if it's just the Sport models doing it or all 2013 with the key fob?

My 2013 Limited does. I posted a thread about this earlier. It's extremely annoying. It has been suggested to leave a key somewhere in the car so if you exit, it won't chirp, but I don't think that's a great solution.

This and how easy the high beams are to activate while using the blinker are probably the biggest pet peeves I have with the car so far.

My 2013 Limited doesn't do this.

Get in the car w/ the key in your pocket, start it, with the car running get out, close the door and walk away (with the key still in your pocket)...

horn should honk twice at you

Anyone found a way to disable this yet?

I've dug through the owner's manual, to no avail.

2013 Limited AWD... no chirps. Remote start set to silent. That's the only setting I know of that controls horn chirps. Just tested it... start, open door, walked away. Also started, opened door, closed the door and locked it with the button on the door handle... walked away... no chirp.

Did you walk away with the keyfob in your pocket with vehicle running?

It was in my pocket the whole time.

As Helicopter stated, he had the fob in his pocket since you can't lock the key inside using the black button on the handle.

Correct. I tried to lock the door (with the Exp. running) using the inside lock button... wouldn't lock.

With the Exp still running... closed the door, used black button on the door handle to lock it. It locked, engine running. Walked away, no chirp.

I've tried to reproduce the chirp that everyone is talking about, and I can't make it happen. Under what circumstances are others hearing the horn chirp?
