Hey guys, my wifes 97 AWD has developed the Torsion bar key clunking. I looked at it and it looks like the kevlar pad is getting smooshed out like a lot of them seem too. I was wondering where I can find the replacement OEM keys? I've check on fastpartsnetwork and a few other places but they all say discontinued. All I've found so far is some aftermarket lift keys but they have no kevlar on them at all. Let me know where you guys have been finding yours! Hoping to get this fixed before I have it aligned and then getting a set of 31's on it. Thanks!

I forgot to add, have any of you used the aftermarket keys? If so, did they stop the clunking? I would think it would be even worse with those based on the picture but I would like to hear your input? Not really looking for a lift but if they are my only option I could just re install my adjust backed out a farther and/or use the warrior shackles to get an even ride height front to rear. Thanks again.

Can you replace just the pad? I thought they were bonded to the key somehow.

I did read that the 98 and up had a differently designed pad than the 95-97. Maybe that is what you've got? Can you post a picture?

well this sucks. i had them laying on my bench, but last month i did a major clean up in there, and i am now thinking they were one of the parts that got "cleaned". that or they grew legs and walked.
when you take the pressure off the keys, they normally almost drop out of the pocket they sit in.

You read right... -97 had the wear pad bonded to the key. 98+ had a frame mounted wear pad.

Anybody know where I can get any new ones?

Got the ebay ones orderd. Thanks swshawaii!

does anyone have a pic of these parts worn out? would they cause a squeaking when going over bumps and such? im guessing the squeaking could also be LCA bushings, those are the only things i have not replaced in the past few months. would anything in the TB cause a squeaking?

Finally got around to installing these! Took care of my clunking noise completely! Got an alignment done today and the Explorer has never drove better! Thanks guys.

My '99 seems to have this noise. I've replaced pretty much everything else up front and the truck has 206k on it so I'm guessing this is the problem.

How hard are these to replace?

Since mine is a '99, I'm guessing I need the frame mounted pad?

Thanks

Lift your tires off the ground and check anything rubber that contacts metal.
Did you replace the sway bar end links and inspect the body mount bushings?
