2013 Explorer Sport
I am trying to figure out the location of the adaptive cruise control / collision avoidance sensor on the 2013 Explorer. I want to install a brush guard but I fear it may interfere with the sensor.

I am pretty sure its not the circle thing on the bumper... I think that is a tow hook mount. I heard it may be in front of the wheels, but what would the effect of a brush guard have? One I was looking at had a bar at about the license plate level.

Bringing this one back because I am curious as well. We are thinking of getting one of the Setina push bars for our Sport and want to know the facts first.

I found it when I pulled the bumper. It is located on the driver side below and just next to the headlight housing. There is a sort of smooth patch next to the opening of the grill that is about 4 inches by 4 inches. In short since the mounting point of all the brush guards and grills are directly below it, you will never be able to add a brush guard or push bumper. Its probably why the police interceptors don't have the collision avoidance

2013 Explorer ACC sensor vs Westin Bull Bar

I recently purchased and installed a Westin 2.5" Bull Bar on my 2013 Explorer that as the 'Adaptive Cruise Control' and now it randomly causes the 'collision center' to fail.

From talking to Westin and the Ford Service Shop who was testing the error, they both tell me that in general the models with the ACC often conflict with any after-market bumpers mounted on the front.

I started wondering if maybe the outter tubing would itself be in the clear if the sensor was maybe in the middle lower area. If so, I was going to consider cutting the lower cross tube off. From this posting, I guess will not help.

Unless anyone has options / suggestions ?

I have no push bar but suddenly I am getting the message that it cannot communicate with my 2013 Explorer. Renders the ACC inoperable as well. Does anyone know how to access it, how to replace it, what it costs, etc?

I took it to the dealer, paid an hour of service shop time and they did nothing to fix it, only "tested it", then told me I'd have to pay for more shop time to allow them to take the bumper off to get into it and diagnose a problem.

I'm frustrated..... any ideas?

I was quoted around $75 for the sensor. I was thinking of just extending it to the grill guard.

Did anyone get a picture of where it is located?

Found the part number: BA1Z9E731C

I think I'm going to check out a local wrench-a-part and see if I can get one.

I have a 2017 Explorer Sport. My neighbor hit me slowly on the driver's side front bumper with only some abrasions. Now, I occasionally given the notice that the sensor is blocked. It the location the same as in the posts from a few years ago?

$75??? I don't think we're talking about the same thing, unless I'm wrong. I'm seeing $1,500-$1,700 for a sensor. Egad!

Diagram: Go to parts.ford.com and search for 9e731 . Appears to be drivers side under the fog lamp. Part runs about $1200 retail.

Update: Yup. You can inspect it from underneath without removing any parts (2016 platinum). There is about a 2 inch gap in front of it where runoff can built up ice and cause it to error out.
