2001 Explorer 4.0L Sohc Oil filter question

Hello, I am the new owner of a 2001 Explorer Limited 4WD 4.0L SOHC. Has 186,000 miles, and I had a used transmission put in, since the original one was toast.

My main issue is that I recently changed the oil on it. The oil filter it had was some generic "Diamond" brand oil filter. When I went to put on the new oil filter, a Motorcraft FL820s, it did not fit. Luckily I had FL400s laying around that fit on it.

I looked into it and I see there is a filter option for engines with 3/4-16" threads. The FL400s does have those threads.

I should be okay with the FL400s filter right?

You have the Job 1 engine. OEM replacement is the FL1A.

EDIT- Sorry, wrong vehicle. FL1A is the correct oil filter. (Page 255)

the Motorcraft FL820S oil filter is the V8. it does not fit the SOHC V6 (as you discovered), FL1A is the correct Motorcraft filter for the SOHC V6.

humpf, neither of mine used the FL820S. learn something new every day.
