Thumbs up How many will stop on Interstate to help someone.

Does anyone else do this? Doesn't have to be an Intersate, any kind of road. If someone is having car trouble, I will stop to see if they need any help. I know I have had breakdowns myself in the past, so I know what it's like. I was just wandering if any of you guys do this or have done it before. I helped a guy and his daughter out once, and he tried to give me some money for it but I said no.

It really depends on the situation; if I see it happening, see a car burning, if somebody obviously slid if the road because of snow and ice and is stuck or if there are small kids in the stranded car, I do.

For just a stranded car, even if the driver looks like Miss Universe, I don't.

I think I remember hearing that it is illegal to stop for stranded motorists in some states. I know out here we have a very active freeway service patrol on all the major routes since they are an active patrol versus radio dispatch they usually get to stranded motorists in less than 15 minutes. Common sense applies for me, if the person does not appear to be in a life threatening situation (and some of those are best left for the folks with guns and badges) I don't bother stopping, there isn't much I can do and with the traffic density on my 60 mile one way commute to work I could waste a lot of time stopping for every stranded motorist.

i stop and help stranded boaters, but it's a whole different story on the waterways in my opinion. people are more friendly on the waterway. you don't ever see a mad person driving a boat... kinda like you never see someone upset while in front of a barbeque. on the road everyone's either pissed or raged or in a hurry, etc etc. as a rule i don't stop, unless i know the person. then of course i stop.

depends on where i am and what the situation is. I travel some pretty decilote roads sometimes where you can sit and not seee another car for 45 minutes. cell phones dont work well theree and there arent to many call boxes so i will stop.

Matt

but in the ocean, someone can rob you, kill you, and dump you out where you'll never be found.

not a chance i would want to take. they can radio the coast gaurd if they are really stranded.

I think there is much more violence on land than at sea.

Over the years I have assisted hundreds of mariners with never an incident. However, it’s a pity that anyone can own and operate a boat w/o any form of license; some of the assists would have been avoided if the boaters in question had had a clue.

I shall always help anyone for any reason on land or sea, and will never accept a penny for it. Blame it on my roots….

If I thought I could help someone, I would stop. But seeing as how I don't think I really know enough about cars to help a stranded motorist, I don't stop.

I have jump started dead batteries in parking lots before, does that count for anything?
