Is it possible that those tracking their miles per gallon in quests for 30 or 40 MPG do a spread sheet like the one below? I'm interested in observing how the various mods impact mileage on the various Explorer models. My Explorer is straight stock ride, except that I'm now running synthetics and got a new set of tires. I will be updating my spread sheet at the end of August. I hope this copy and paste from my excel spread sheet works right.

May start miles Gallons PPG Cost MPG
traveled
5/1/05 110373 138 6.7 $2.10 $14.00 20.5 mpg
5/7/05 110511 264 9.3 $2.15 $20.00 28.3 mpg
5/9/05 110775 131 6.9 $2.15 $15.00 18.98 mpg
5/13/05 110906 167 11.9 $2.09 $25.00 14.03 mpg
5/16/05 111073 102 7.1 $2.10 $15.00 14.36 mpg
5/23/05 111175 225 14.64 $2.05 $30.00 15.36 mpg
totals 1027 1027 56.54 $2.11avg $119.00 18.18 mpg

im sure this has already been answered but you brought up 55. well i take that is in a 55 right? well what about interstate? how fast do most of you go with a speed limit of 70...? just wondering if there is a certain speed where the car shifts gears at a good speed for a good cruise ride... ?

I don't think he does 55. He often speaks of average speeds in the 65-70 range.

Thumbs up Attention Please

I have noticed a bit of baiting of others by some of the posters in this thread. This will not continue to happen. This is a thread about what is/isn't working in the eternal quest of many of our members to extract the best possible MPG from their trucks. Posts from here out will stick to the topic or I will make them disappear. I expect everyone to be mature and adult about this. I know this will be more of a stretch for some and less so for others, but it is an expectation none the less. If I get more complaints or this becomes a hassle the whole thread disappears.

Have a nice day

Aldive, I've noticed you are working out your mileage based on your GPS. What kind of MPG do you get if you use the trip meter on your dash like everyone else? I'm just wondering if everyone here is comparing apples to apples?

I can't or won't speak for Aldive. I haven't used a GPS for years but used to have one for a boat I had in Bermuda. My buddy and I tested it out on my car, comparing speed and distance measurements per GPS to what the speedo and odometer were telling us. Pretty much bang on identical. I'd put more stock in a GPS reading than the "trip meter". I hear more about odometers giving faulty readings than I do about GPS.

I have used both. The dash odometer is always within a mile or two of the GPS ( Garmin Street Pilot 2620 ).

I don't know what kind of drag they produce, or what effect they have on mileage.
What about Air Dams ???

What effect do they have on Fuel Mileage ??
