I believe that (33.38) is your best mileage ever in this vehicle, is it not?

Are you running a TB from a Ford Mustang? Or is that a brand name?

If not the best, real close.

Take a look at this thread for the TB http://www.explorerforum.com/forums/...d.php?t=139454

Yeah, dump the lift, tires & gears..they'll kill mileage every time. If you run a lifted truck on big tires, you can expect crappy mileage. My little Zuk which started out at 30 mpg is down to 14 mpg because it's on 32's now....

Read this thread; there's a reason its been viewed 31,000 times. And do what the above post said. You can't have an off-road truck and expect good mileage. As the old cliche says, "you can't have your cake and eat it too."

What's sad about the whole mileage thing is that Ford can and does produce gasoline powered motors that will get decent mileage. My Mach 1 has the 4.6 32V motor in it, and it gets almost 28 mpg on the highway if you treat it nice while still putting down over 300 hp at the rear wheels. Take that motor, re-tune it for efficiency (new cams and new program) and stick it in the Explorer and I bet it would still get close to 28 mpg with no mods.

It can be done....

You have a serious problem(s).

Have you replaced plugs/wires? Have you had a scan done to determine the condition of the O2 sensors? What tire air pressure do you run? How do you drive?

Umm, they do. The 3V version of that motor debuts in the '06 Explorer this fall and the 2V version has been in Ex's since '02. I seriously doubt going up to the 4V version would produce anywhere near 28 mpg.

Wow that's ugly. I had a '93 which had 175k miles on it before I gave it away and I currently have a '98 with 132k. Both get/got in the high teens in normal driving (for me that's camped out at 75 on the highway), low to mid 20's when I was nursing it. Even when I'm hauling my horse-trailer loaded, I still get 12 or 13 mpg. I'd say you've either got engine problems, a seriously lead-foot , or you're not actually running a 4.0l V6. Isn't the Eddie Bauer a V8?...

Love this truck, but seriously considering a full sized diesel pickup...

Is there like any one particular chip I could put in my 97xlt v6 0hv to get better mileage? If so could someone point me to it? Everything is stock
with new plugs, wires, fuel filter, new K&N air filter. Sorry in advance if it's
already been answered and I didn't catch it.

Yes, contact Doug Studdard at Bama Chips ( http://www.bamachips.com/ ) and ask him for advise. He will help you.

Good luck .....
