I have cable now, not near as nice as the T3 I had at school, but cable is decent. I like it better than dial up because we have a router, and have a port in just about every room in the house, and can have multiple computers hooked up.

stuck with cable until DSL?

I would take my cable at home over my DSL at work any day of the week!

We have cable here at my parent's house, and I will also have cable after I move to Houston. DSL is not available in my area.

Nothing beats a school connection! However, here I run a dialup. It runs like old people ****... yeah. Slow and sloppy

I have a DSL at work for the lab..
a 3Mbit pipe (wireless spread spectrum) that I use on the Corporate computers..

At home I have a 56k modem that never connects higher than 24k.. It doesn't help that my phone line is laying on top of the ground and runs 250 Ft to the street and once it hits the TNI it goes another 100 ft to get to the computer room.. then into a phone switch.. then into the computer.. I don't use it much.. but its there..

Oh yea.. I also have my 14.4k Cell phone modem that I use when I'm traveling.. I can check email.. but not much else.. I've tried to browser this site at 14.4 but I just can't stand it..

BTW.. Why get DSL when you already have cable.. Unless they are overselling cable in your area the Up speed of the cable should be much higher than the DSL..

SHUT UP!!!!!!!!!

We moved here from San Diego 3 years ago, we had cable and loved it. Here in Pensacola it is still like 1973, they don't have DSL or Cable. My dial up, if I get 27k I am so happy.
We were here almost a year before Blockbuster started carrying DVD's.

You many want to consider ISDN then if you are looking for something slightly faster. I ran ISDN for a year before DSL and Cable came out in my area. Prices have gone down alot recently and it should be available in your area. Also it runs at 128K.

I have cable from Comcast. It is great. I had DSL from Qwest for 2 months and then dropped it because it sucked. I have had cable ever since and love it plus it is about the same $.

once it was fixed i have not had any downtime at all.

even though i work for SBC/ASI i still think which ever you like better.

I too am for cable over dsl. They are restricting the bandwidth on cable a little so they can make more money selling higher bandwidth, but not as much as the dsl, and it is mostly just your upload speed.

CAN

I have been on DSL for about 3 months. I used to have a really slow 56K from 1999-2002.

It would take me 20 min. to download one song off the net. Now it takes me 90 seconds

My sister had Aol, then cable, and now DSL. The Aol was the worst internet I've ever seen, with them cutting you off every couple of hours. Her cable used to be down alot- it would just not light up, and she would have no 'net.

We both love the DSL, and i have had no problems with it thus far.

For what it's worth, I worked as a Verizon DSL technical support supervisor... and IMHO, Cable is far more reliable.

DSL runs good, when it runs. Once it goes down it is takes an act of God to get it fixed. DSL is NOT a guaranteed service as is dial tone, thereby making repairs a "back-burner issue".

Cable is simple, and is generally fixed within 24-72 hours unless a major failure happens in your neighborhood. The infrastructure of cable is simple compared to DSL. Not to mention (no offense to phone techs out there), dial tone repairmen generally dont know squat about DSL and this causes a LOT of problems with installation and service.

CABLE!

I've had DSL through Qwest for almost a year now and have suffered through only one outage, and that was fixed within 24 hours. Overall I'm very happy with the speed and customer service (and that's saying something if you're familiar with Qwest!). I also recently setup a wireless network to share the DSL connection - works great!

I know cable is also supposed to be very good, but I have yet to try it since it's not available in my area...
