I was wondering how people can tell the difference between the 91-94's. To me i cant tell at a glance.

Interior wise and under the hood it is easier to tell them apart, but you asked for at a glance.

91, 92, are different from each other, and 93-94 are different yet again...

As for the exterior, 91 Eddie bauers have lighter tan colors than later years.

93-94 have the "tupperware" underneath the rockers...

91-92 steel and certain aluminum wheels are different from 93-94 wheels.

93-94 has holes for trailer chains in the bumper, 91-92 does not....

First generation Limiteds can only be 93-94.

i have trailer chains on my little black bumper crossmember piece and i have a 92 XLT.

also 93-94 were start of EGR valves that 91-92 didn't have

Has the rear bumper ever been replaced? the date it was made is stamped on the bottom of it.....

Huh? What do you mean by little bumper holes? Are they on the bottom of the rear bumper? Or somewhere else?

On your 94, there should be two holes in the black thick metal piece that the trailer ball hole is in, one on either side.....

Well, the thing I hate the most is that the '91-'92 has only a one cup holder in the front, and the later has the two. Grrr!;)

Actually, not all 92's had the single cup holder....it seems early 92's had it, but was replaced mid year with the dual one...all three of my families 92's have the double.:D

If you want to, you can just get a dual cupholder... trust me, it'll fit :)

My 92 bumper didn't have holes for the safety chains, and it was awhile before I actually found the slots up under the frame that I guess were for that purpose. I had to put longer chains on my trailer to use them.

my fully loaded 93 EB has drum brakes in the rear even though the manual states that it has 4 wheel disc.

Yes it does. I never noticed them b4. They are on the back part of the metal piece, where it starts to angle down, so you can't really see the holes looking down at the trailer ball piece.

BTW

Not all 93's have EGR. EGR was fitted halfway thru the model year.

Also, and check me on this, but 91-92's did not come with the deer print wheels. Only the throwing stars.
93's and 94's came with either wheel style. Correct me if you think I'm wrong.

typo in your manual or you misread it..... pre 95 did not have 4 wheel disc...it wasnt even an option till 95 and later

4 wheel discs w/abs are standard in all 95-01 Explorers.

ok fine... but he said his manual for his 93 says it has 4 wheel discs... i was saying no x before 95 had 4 wheel discs

BTW (informational purposes only), both of my '94s have only one hole in the black piece on the rear bumper and that's the hole for the trailer ball. (Both have the factory towing package, too, with 3.73 LS, tranny cooler, and that funky trailer plug and wiring.) One I've had since new so I know that the bumper has never been changed.

Triple check....as Rhett said, they are in behind, at the very back of the black piece, you have to look from underneath to see them....They are directly under the plate....

And in my 91, it is the most useless cup holder ever! I hate it! no matter what i put in there everything allways tips over and spills everywhere! I had to put in one of those floor mats that cover the hump, not to protect the carpet, but to hide the stains!

Yeah, it's amazing I never noticed that one. You can tell I don't tow with my truck.

I'm surprised no one said anything about the deer print wheels vs. throwing stars.

Throwing stars 91-94
Deer Print 93-94 only

is this true or no?
