I want to put an amp on my door speakers but I still want to fade them from side to side to front to back, am I still able to do this if I put them on an amp? Will it only work with high level inputs or can I use my rca since I got an after market head unit.

If you have 2 preouts then you can still fade front-back and left-right, If you have only one preout then you can go left-right only

i thought it depended on if he had 4 channels on his amp

if its only 2 channels your only gonna be able to fade, or to balnace, not both

Yes, but how you hook it up depends on how many preouts your HU has.

If you HU only has one set of preouts, they will be rear preouts. You'd have to put your other two speakers on the front channel of the amp in your HU.
