Rick & Char's Utah Vacation... Landscape Photos

www.explorerforum.com/utah_03

Char and I just got back from Utah's color country yesterday. We spent a week up there touring the "Golden Circle" which is an enormous area chocked full of some of the most amazing landscape in the world.

Our trip consisted of visits to; Bryce Canyon NP , Cedar Breaks NM, Kodachrome Basin NM, Capitol Reef NM, Gooseneck SP, Grand Staircase Escalante NM, Lake Powell and finally Monument Valley.

This part of Utah goes on for miles. These sites aren't just scattered around. You don't have to look for awesome views, every view is spectacular!

We couldn't have picked a better time for our trip. October is considered off-season for this area so there was barely any traffic and the parks and momuments were practically empty which of course is the best way to experience the solitutde of the parks.

Char and I would like to go back again next year and check out some of the back country roads in the area as this trip was strictly on pavement. It would be great to put a Explorer run together for next fall where we could tour the area with everything from Sport Trucks to Rock Crawlers.

WOW

I must go there before I die, If it`s that incredible via photos, then being there would be fantastic. So many shades of brown... and even pink?

Some questions though, if you don`t mind!

What`s the story behind the hand shapes in the rock?

And why is there a radiation warning in one pic?

Some of those pics are really great, #130 is crazy. Some kind of filter on the lens or is that natural?

Oh yeah, those pictures of the cave paintings with the guys on their backs, what are they doing? playing flutes or something? smoking pipes maybe?

awesome pics!

Those were unbelievable pics. What was with the radiation pic. It looked like below it the sign showed a Terredactil.

Hey, You most likely drove through my home town of Bicknell Utah... I grew up just 20 miles from Capitol Reef... If you go through there in the summer you have to stop and swim in the falls in Capitol Reef, that is always a great time...

That there looks like you were driving down into the bottoms... I love it down there...

And this one looks like Hickman's Bridge... But I could be wrong....

The radiation sign is because it is (Was?) a urianium mine. Anyone else but me realize that sign would only make them want to go further?

The radiation warning sign is in a uranium mine at Capitol Reef.

The hand prints, I'm not sure what the story is, but it appears people have just been running their hands up and down in the sandstone to carve that shape. I don't think they are ancient, but I could be wrong.

The upside down flute players are Kokapelis. Anasazi fertility gods. I had never seen them laying on their backs in any other petroglyphs.

I haven't been to Hole in the Rock yet. I would like to go and do the trail as well.

That's really cool looking at stuff like that. Over here in NY we have trees, dirt, weeds and misquitos.
