Would be a lot easier to find a clean 4X2 to purchase instead. However, if you are still so inclinded to convert your current X, then you will need to remove the front axle, transmission and transfer case. Locate the same parts from a 4x2 and install. You can leave your current trans/transfer case in place and not have a front drive shaft and be 2 wheel drive. Are you looking to reduce weight or do you just want to lower it?

probably wants to lower it.

in all honesty, it would be alot easier and cheaper to just sell it and buy one like it that is 2wd. the project is doable, but the main question is it worth doing? maybe if the current truck holds some sentimental value.

yeah, it's to lower it. the truck doesn't hold too much sentimental value, i thought it was a not too difficult process, and i was wrong. guess i'll be looking for a 4x2. thanks guys.
