Only $149.00? Wow, that looks like a mighty good price. Combined with 3" body you should be able to fit 33's although you might still get rubing in the front. Depends if you still have your sway bar intact.

I looked at the site and the descriptions, it was unclear what the kit contained. I would call the manufacturer or the dealer to confirm that it is a suspension lift for that amount and also ask them what is included in the kit. It may be just an add-a-leaf in the rear and a coil spacer for the front. If that is the case, it's really not a true suspension lift.

Hey, For your 2 1/2 rancho did you pay like 600$? how much was it, if you dont mind me askin

It looks funny when you say that a suspension lift costs only $149.00. It probably IS only a spacer for the front. New coils, raised coils for the front ar going for about $200.00 alone. What about add-a-leaf? cheapest at $60.00-70.00. That I can understand. Well, I would just call this a "Poor man's suspension lift kit". Right?
Hope to find out more.

JayR -

It has been a long time (about 3 or4 yrs) but I think it was around $700.00 or a little more than that and another $700 to have it installed at a shop in Santa Clara, CA. The cost of the kit and installation cost were well spent. I have not had any problems with the kit or the installation.

I am not a hardcore wheeler like others on this board so this kit suits me fine as a daily driver and some weekend wheeling.

Consider the kind of wheeling you'd like to do and select your suspension lift kit based on that. I would not suggest a a body lift alone for wheeling. It does not improve the articulation of your suspension nor does it strenghten the various suspension components. If you like hardcore wheeling, I'd consider the 6" lift kits from the various manufacturers.

Don't forget that you'd have to change gears ($$$) if you have larger tires ($$$). And if you're regearing, might as well add locker(s) ($$$) to save on installtion costs. Definitely plan and spend wisely on the build up because it will save you in the long run.

Mucho $$$$$$ by the time all is done, but it'll be all worth it.

I'm having a rear locker installed today and it's costing me an extra $260.00 on top of the locker's cost.

I was looking into getting that kit, and I asked about ti before, it includes new front coils, and add-a-leafs. I am pretty sure thats it. You also need to get caster/camber bushings (about $30).

So is that $149.00 for new coils and add-a-leaf or $600.00? I'm confused now. I think I'll go and visit their site and call them.

Thanks,

Down to business.

According to Rocky Mountain this kit includes two new coils for the front and add-a-leaf. It's $149.00 before shipping. Fits 1990-1994 Explorer and Navajo. There are also shocks that you can order that go good with this lift and they cost $30.00 each before shipping. Total for me came to $314.00 includint everything shipped right to my door. Gues I'm going crazy with my rig lately,,,,,,,,,,

Are you Implying you just Went out and got my poor mans lift?? Sike, Im ordering tomarrow =) hahahahhahah. =) Damn bug leave me alone!

Hey Rock!

Do you like those Bosch plugs in your rig? Im thinking of getting them, Do you like them? Any noticeable diff?

Yeah, I did notice a +1-2 MPG raise, so thats always good, not a whole lot HP wise, but I think they are worth it, plus I got them from carparts.com, and they were 33% off, so they were pretty cheap.

It's not like that.

I was saying that putting spacers under the coils is a poor man's lift, not replacing the coils. Getting this kit from Rocky M. should be plenty for what I'm doing plus I'm putting the 3" body lift too. As far as tires I'll stay with my RT/S's for now. I'm not going any bigger. I was going to get the M/T's from a guy on the list but decided that right now I'm kind of on cash and besides, I won't need two sets of tires. I do have two sets now anyway. Second set with stock rims is just laying in my basement. My idea was to put RT/S's on stock rims and use them daily and mount the M/T's on the new rims I just got and use just for off road. I figured that with the amount of off roading I'm doing it'll be too much, well, at least for now. I know I'll change my mind later.

Getting back to the spark plugs, I should do something about mine. I got 92k miles on my truck and have not even touched the plugs or wires yet. Between original plugs and new ones I bet I'll notice difference in power and gas milage. Should do it next.

Well, so many things you can do to your truck, so little time (and money).

33's

how would 33's fit with 4.5/5 inches of lift i have a 6 inch lift and had to cut the factory flares can sports and xlt get different size tires with the same lift.

jayr,

How did your lift go? I'm thinking about getting the 1.5-2" lift. Does it come with everything you need? Do you really need to buy the shocks or can I live with my current ones? Also, tdavis told me about some bushings under the coil springs, did you change those?

good question

Rather these come with the bushings or not, I don't know since my lift hasn't arrived yet. (I really hope it's here before I leave on my trip!!) Call Rocky Mount. and ask. You can stay with the original, stock shocks but the new ones might have more travel - you'll need that since you'll have 2" less travel on the shock with the lift. Just an idea. Make right the first time.

Got my Kit

My total bill was 230 with shipping the 2 bushings were like 50$, kit 149 and shipping 30$. It comes with 2 red coils, (2 caster/camber adjusting bushings)not included in the kit, and rear add a leafs. Im planing the install in a week when I get back from the ocean. I could do a write up( with pics) on my install if Rick or anyone would like. The add a leafs look like they make it easy for all you do is put the new leaf above the helper spring and under the top ones. Only problem ive had so far is UPS putting so much darn tape on the leafs. Let me know guys.. Ill keep you posted

A write-up w/pics would be great!!

Jay,
I'd like to see a write-up on swapping out coils and add-a-leafs. Pics really help on something like this.
I've got a set of Skyjacker coils from the aforementioned kit and am thinking about putting them on my 91 XLT.
I've never done spring or leaf work on a vehicle and I'm sure there are a few tricks to make it easier.
So, take lots of pics and fill us in...

Warren

Hey wabbit, rear leafs are easy, especially if it is just an add-a-leaf. All you do is remove the u-bolts, and then take off the bottom leaf, put the new one in,a nd put the bottom back on, and then put the u-bolts and plate back on.
