For those of you that have not seen my truck. I had a set of rear shock mount skidplates made for me. They will bring your rear shocks up 3"(I thought is was only 2 but it is really 3")and will keep your U-Bolts from getting messed up.
These are made by Mark Train of Trains 4x4 and Off-Road in Salinas CA. The cost of these would be around $100.00 a set, plus shipping, but if alot of people would want these he would bring the price down accordingly. The more orders the less everyone has to pay. I will tell you this, that it cost me more than $100.00 to have him make up the first set. I paid for his design time. I don't know if these would fit on 91-94 models, but you could ask, or better yet, I'll ask him. I everyone would like to put their money together, I could probably arrange to have x number of sets made. For those interested you can email me at ray@explorerforum.com.

Find out if it will work on pre-95. If so there's a good chance I'm in.

Ray,
That looks awesome! I would imagine shipping would be pretty expensive though. How long does it take to install?

How Hard is it to install these... This dose not add any lift correct?

I am Interested.

Ray,

They will fit 91-01 Explorers with spring under. The stock mounting plates are all the same for these years.

Kris,config,
You just take the old shock mounts off and put the new ones on. Should only take 45 minutes at the most. I don't know how heavy they are, but shouldn't cost much to ship.

Brett,
Thaks for verifying that.

Hey Ray, quite the skid plate you have there, I have never seen that before. How much did it cost you to have that huge undercarriage skid plate made? Looks like it has got a work out too.

Ray, can Train's make them so that they only lift the shock, say, about 1". I don't know if Mark would alter the design or not. From the looks of the picture, it may not protect the shock with less lift, but I don't want so much lift that the shocks bottom out before I hit the rubber bumpers.

Tom,
The ideal is to bring the shock up far enough to keep it from being hit. The reason he made it higher is if you back up on to somthing, it will push it up and slide over. You can call and see, I'm pretty sure that he could make it level. His number is (831) 449-8435, ask for Mark Train.

rock883,
The front skidplate was alittle over $200.00. It is 3/16" plate steel.

I have had 2 people contact me with a forsure I want them and will give up the money. If we get 3 more, then that will knock down the price to $95.00 and if we get more than 5, I will see if Trains will come down more. Any one else want to get in on this. I will tell you that they do work very well. I tried them out this weekend. See the pictures on before and after.

count me in!

Ray,
Please count me in on these skid plates. Been wanting to do this for years!

Me too. That'll also fix my problem of having my Edelbrocks a couple inches too short in the back. I'll still hafta work on that front though.

OK, That makes 4 people. We need at least one more person, Then I will turn the list over to Trains.

Ray,
Please set me up with a set as well and just let me know where the money needs to be sent to. Thanks for setting this up for us.

Ok I talked to Mark At Trains 4x4 & Off-Road and He said he will need to know what the up travel on your shocks is (How much will the shock travel up before it won't travel anymore).
This way he will custom fit it to your Explorer since some of you are lifted and some aren't.
If he made them all like mine, some of you would have to change shocks, because the travel would decrease enough to bottom out on the shock when you come down hard.
Yes Tom, he will accomodate you on this, so does that mean you will buy a set.

OK now the cost. It will be $90.00 plus shipping.
Since ALL of you that want these are from out of state, there is no tax. Dead Link Removed

Now what do I need from you.
I need your name and address sent to me so I can give him the list of who is going to call him and purchase these.
Then you can call him and give him the info that he needs to custom fit the angle of the shock mount.
His number is (831) 449-8435, ask for Mark Train. You can call him starting Thursday
I have the following people
Will (RoadKill)
Gerald
Rod (Sinjin(PEZ))
Lee (Leebo)
Rick (ExplorerGM)
Kris Guilbeaux
Brian Wooton

Anybody else that would like to get in on this please email me and I will add your name to the list.
If We get another 7 people he will drop it another 10 bucks.

How about it Tom. I heard that buying shock mount skid plates will negate the effact of catching the garter.
Save your life it will. Dead Link Removed

Well heck Ray, 4WheelParts offered to install my Edelbrocks for free so I didn't get to measure my travel. I just know my frame lift is at least 2" over stock and may go to 3" in the very near future. You said the mount shortens the shock travel by 2" which would take up most of that slack so whatever he did for you is fine by me.

PS / I can't measure mine because it's in the body shop getting repaired from my layover. I've already heard the 20 yr old dealership driver nearly laid it over again when he gunned it on a corner without realizing it was lifted and had no swaybars. I can't wait till next time I turn it in to the dealership when it has lockers in the rear and he tries that again. Maybe I can make a profit on this if I play it right :D

Excuse me Gerald, did you say they gunned it around a corner? Didn't know it was lifted? Seems like a little mistreatment( unless you asked them to do something that needed fast cornering). Did I ask if they didn't know it was lifted? I'd be leary of that place.....

Jeff, I didn't word that quite right. Of course he knew it was lifted; probably didn't know about the missing swaybars though. The manager of the body shop is the stepfather of my best friend in high school so I've known him for nearly thirty years. He took care of it. Any other dealership would not even have told me what happened since nothing came of it. That driver now works for the dealership's service dept instead of the body shop.
