Side Exhaust on 95 Explorer 4 Dr

Anyone ever put side exhaust on there 4 door explorer? I'm thinking about it for my 95 XLT with some twin borla tips.

Side, behind the tire or before it.

Before it. Isn't there an emission law that it has to clear the cabin?

I dont know about that law but my exhaust exits on the side behind the passenger tire.

Cool! Do you have a picture of it?

Sorry, I dont have a digital camera so I cant help you there. Hey, my birthday is in a couple of weeks so maybe it might be a good idea to ask for one.

Sure why not??? They are so cheap these days.

I'm confused  or maybe I've had too many beers. From reading this I'm asuming that you want the exhaust to dump out in front of the rear tire, like some of the aftermarket mustangs, race cars and some F150s.

Most states do have laws about where you can dump the exhaust and on most cars/suvs (or anything else with a full body) the exhaust has to exit behind the passenger cabin. On pickup trucks this happens to be about half way back so you see more side exhausts and dumps on those than full bodied vehicles.

I've also been told that on side exit exhausts you have to be careful because rims can discolor quickly. I've never seen this happen but I don't really see very many side exhausts.

If you want it exiting behind the rear tire like texplorers then that shouldn't be a problem, the 91-94s mostly all have a rear side exhaust behind the passenger side tire.

Good point about the discoloration. Wasn't there some kind of recall with the F series pickup trucks when they came stock with side exhaust?

I have side exhaust on my Cherokee and it looks good but you may have trouble finding a muffler shop that will do it. This is because there is a risk of getting fumes inside the vehicle since the pipes will be exiting before they clear the passenger compartment. I have some pics of mine in my link in my sig.

there is a member on here, Troll, who used to have side exit exhaust but he changed it to run all the way back. Not sure why he changed it, maybe because of discoloration? Anyway, here's a link to his site; pics are all the way at the bottom.

Go behind the tire - it's much better plus it decreases the chance of exhaust coming into the cabin with the rear window open.

I have a picture of mine (crome tipped) but it's at home, so I'll upload it tonight.

Ry.

Good idea. I think if I do end up doing it it'll have it behind the wheel, I'm getting nerf bars on the sides too so I don't want to have to go under them and have possible clearance issues if I ever go off roading.

I did notice that after I put the side exhaust on, with the right wind and the windows down I get a little fumes in the cabin. But nothing that will kill me.(I hope):fart:

Putting it in front of the back tire, like said before, is a BAD thing. It will most definitely discolor your rims, especially if they are aluminum. I can email you a pic of my friends truck with the Borla set up his rim is NASTY!

I have a side exit behind the back wheel, if someone will post for me I can put it up on here.

Everyone is right about the fumes entering the cabin. What is weird is Ford Explorers put their tailpipe going straight out the back and yet the back hatch opens. If you look at most vehicles that have a back hatch they exit the side. things that make you go, hmmm.

Pictures....ahhhh send them my way!:D
