How to wire a amp cooling fan?

This is kinda a simple but how do I wire a amp cooling fan and have it turn on only when the amp is on. Can I splice into the amp's hot wire and get the power there or do I have to run a wire all they back to the battery? A pic would help a lot too.

is it best to use 2 or 1? It is in a very close space but if it blows cool air in it needs the warm air out right???
 






my amp rack has two in two out and it works very well. i used a relay as described above. make sure to wire the fans in parellel as well. if they are in series they won't run as fast.

Plus, if they are wired in a series, and one dies, the other might shut off too....
 






I have a relay setup as described above and had to put in a noise filter right before the remote lead went into my amps. The relay would cause a thump when it would open/close.
 






I turn my amp on with a switch not the raido turn on cuz sometimes I don't want the amp on. Do you have a simplier pic or explan it? Do I need a relay just for a little fan?

help me!!! I just put in the fan and I tried it out and there is hardly anny bass and all I hear is a squealing comming from the sub. I used the 12 DC square fan from raido shack and I don't know what happened. For the fan I hooked up the + to the remote on the amp and the ground to a ground. It works great but I got squealing from the sub. Do I have to get noise filters? HELP!
 






I was just thinking would it make anny difference how close to the amp I tied into the remote wire. What I mean is if I tie my fan into as far away from the amp as possible would I still get that squealing noise?
 






does the sub squeal when the fans not hooked up? or is this a new install thats having that problem?
 






it was the new install but I figured it out. I had the fan + hooked in like a couple of inches off of the remote wire on the amp. I thought that it had to be at least a foot or more away from the amp. So I ran a wire all the way up to my switch and that seemed to fix the problem. Installation complete and it looks great. Thanks for all the help.
