I want to attempt to construct something that would prevent the underneath of the rear seats from being seen. I have equipment installed under there (amp, headunit brain, inverter, and a ps2), which is the reason for the construction.

My plan is to use MDF to fabricate a front and two sides that would fit snug under the seat when in position. I would have to build it infront of the rear seat legs and follow the contour of the floor. Once the building is done, I plan on covering it with either leatherette or carpet to match the seat or floor respectively, all depends on the price. One more thing, the unit would have to be able to come foward and out to allow the seat to fold down to get to the equipment if necessary.

Well, there it is, my plan. I would appreciate any feed back regarding additional ideas or suggestions. If anyone has attempted this or has pics, I would love to know about it.

How do you plan to ventilate the area; that amp needs air?

Ventilation is a concern (12V computer fans?).

Also, the area below the seats isn't level, and the seat brackets take up much of the room down there. I'm very interested to see how you're gonna make it all work.

I'd be more inclined to build a false floor for the cargo area like many members have done. There are also a few aftermarket storage false floors available.

There is enough room under the sear. I have a amp, an inverter, tools, etc., under mine. Mine is open so ventilation has not been a problem.

I guess I overlooked ventilation. But computer fans sound like a good idea. I'll probably start construction this weekend, if time permits.

It shouldn't be too hard. Isn't that what custom work is about? Find a problem and then come up with a way to solve it.

I have a box in the cargo area and I didn't want to use up more space then necessary.

What you need is a 12 v brushless fan...Go to radio shack. That's where I get them.

how are you gonna open up your PS2 tray with that wall in the way. And how are your remotes gonna come out. I dont know. It sounds like a good idea, but im always using my PS2. I wouldnt want to have to move a wall to get to it..

why do this though? if its under the seat it can't be seen with the doors shut and the car locked. and it doesn't prevent someone who is in the truck from stealing anything.... i dont get it

also, you don't want your inverter by that other stuff. i recommend not running one and just hooking up the ps2 as 12 volt (you can find write-ups of how to do so on the net)

btw- the ps2 and controllers fit real nicely in the center console with a little work. where they are easily accessible

Expo - wouldnt happen to have apicture of a PS2 in the center console, would you.. You talking about in the arm rest?

i once tried putting my ps2 in the armrest. I even took out the brackets in the inside of the consule and the plastic insert. I would have needed about another 1/2 inch to go to be able to fit the controls in. the lid wouldnt close..

my truck has been so ripped apart for so long that i don't

i can get one tomorrow hopefully, but i need to bring the ps2 down from my room- like isaid its ripped apart down in the truck. i don't even have any speakers hooked up for now

the way to make it work- is to trim all the stuff you can on the bottom and to cut a hole for the fans and the plugs in the bottom, then to cut out the bottom of the armrest for any extra room you need. the bottom of my armrest isn't amazingly pretty this way, but who really cares? i just dremeled the plastic away and then cut some of the foam away until it all fit nicely

If all you want to do is cover up the gap between the bottom of the seat and the floor just use some vinyl or heavy fabric in your choice of colors. Just hang it from the front of the seat bottom so that it touches the floor. It will hide the view and is flexible enough to be squished when the seats are folded. Good luck.

Hanging the vinyl is another good idea. There's an automotive leather shop nearby, I'll check it out first before I construct.

Expo... I'd also like to see what the armrest looks like with and without the PS2.

Thanks
