The A1500HCQ is a good choice, which will leave you with plenty of headroom. Remember, it is more common to blow speakers by underpowering them than overpowering them! That amp will let you run another two of those 12s, giving them about 700w a peice..... which is pretty close to what you need....

thanks for the info guys!
hmmm....mabey I should go with a less powerfull sub, I just likes the Alum10X because at thezeb.com they have them for $90 and they are normally $250. High power subs requare high power amps with cost to much.

that combination is lookin hella good rydinhigh, im gonna have to keep that in mind!!!! thanks

so that amp would power that sub nicely? also do the ohm rating and all that junk i dont know about match up?

Yup everything would work and it should sound good.

I have two of those 10's seeing about 550watts rms each and they sound very very nice.

ok I have another noob question...

that amp recommended by rydinhigh is

2 x 50W Rms __@ 4 Ohm Stereo
2 x 90W Rms __@ 2 Ohm Stereo
2 x 150W Rms_@ 1 Ohm Stereo
2 x 175W Rms_@ 0.5 Ohm Stereo
1 x 500W Rms @ 1 Ohm Bdgd

how would I hook it up to make it work with the DVCs and all (it says the sub is Dual 4 Ohm | 2 Ohm or 8 Ohm Operation)?

thanks again

If those numbers are correct then don't get that amp. With one dvc sub the lowest you can wire it down to is 2 ohms. Let me look for a better amp for you.

Actually before we even do this how much are you looking to spend total.

Ok I need to go back to bed. It says those subs can be wired to work at dual 2 ohm operation.

If you wire it up like the pic below you should get 1 ohm (500 watts) from the amp.

Correct and don't worry about it being 50watts over. Its better to overpower subs then to underpower them. I was going to suggest that amp but didn't know how much you were looking to spend.

You can't hurt a speaker by feeding it lower then what its rated.

What size power and speaker wire should I use for the 1x650W at 2ohms amp? Crutchfield's little graph thing said I should use 8 guage for power wire, but what about the speaker wire?

For speaker wire I used 12 ga but you should be fine with 14. Just an fyi go to home depot to get the speaker wire its cheaper and audio places and you can get it by the foot.

Playing subwoofers at loud levels without enough power causes distortion which can blow a speaker faster than feeding it to much power.

Your thinking of clipping. There isn't any harm in using a smaller amp as long as the signal isn't clipping.

But odds are 9 out of 10 you are going to try and extract too much out of the amp and drive it into clipping during extended loud play times. All said and done, I think it is a stupid idea to underpowering something when you can overpower it for just a little more....

I think you are on the right track wired_af ... good luck and let me know how those 10s sound ;)
