Hello all, Im conteplating making my Explorer a sleeper. Ive been looking for worthwhile mods and the one I feel that will suit me the best is a supercharger. So here I am coming to you all for help. (I know this has prob been asked before, but please bare with me ...)

My questions are as follow:

1.What supercharger options do I have (Brands) I know Ive got EE (Coming Soon) ....

2.What RWHP am I looking at when completed for each kit.

3.What times (1/4 mile) do you think Ill be running in the Blown V6 OHV.

And lastly, I just want to mention I have searched and come up with very few options. I just want to hear it first hand. Thxs in advance !!:D

ExplorerExpress is the only option. there are no others for the SOHC, unless you want to do custom install.

The upcoming EE kit is for the SOHC. I don't think they have any more of their OHV kits, but they were made by BBK and you may be able to still find one. I bought mine from truckperformance.com

There are also a few centrifugal kits available for the OHV, but you'll probably have to adapt them a bit for your 98. You'd probably have to adapt the BBK a bit to allow for your fuelless return system.

I started at around 200 rwhp with the BBK kit and got it up to about 240 (without nitrous).

With the BBK kit, 33s, and 4.30 gears I was running high 15s without the laughing gas. I could have been in the mid 14s if I had street tires and no heavy and wind resistant offroad equipment.

Have you looked through my s/c threads in the Need for Speed forum? I know the pictures don't show up anymore, but there's lots of info in there on the BBK kit.

bah, im an idiot. you are OHV. nevermind. :p

I was actually looking into a Centrifugial, thats what I had on the Mustangs .. I feel that they are relatively easier to work with. But in this case Ill go with anything that gets me where I want to go FASTER .... Thxs for the quick replies.

And Alec Ill look into your thread ... Thxs!

Wait I re-read your posts ... And if i understand it correclty, are you telling me no-one makes a ready kit for the 98 OHV ??? If so I may just have to go with Spray !! But I dont want that ...

I looked around and it seems they dont have a OHV kit available .... Even the Ranger kit is a "must call" item, which prob means it was discontinued. But ill call them and find out. Thxs for the info though!!

a really bad ass ohv and your still not remotely fast enough to be a "sleeper"

troll is a sleeper

The link I posted says EXPLORER in nice big letters, you must be blind.

I understand that, but what makes you think its for the OHV or even a V-6 for that matter. i just assumed it was for a V8 .. Then I saw this "Some additional fabrication is required for 95-98 4.0L applications - we can help there too"

Thxs!

Ill call them tommorow!

Ok well, then a Napper ??? :p

Jeez guys, lighten up ... You all seem kinda Pissed Off when you post !!

Thxs for the replies though. ;)

I think what they are trying to say is that they think it won't be as fast as your expecting. However, I think it would be pretty quick with a few other mods and some tuning. After all, didn't alec have a lot of fun with his, even though he had huge tires? I think his v6 was pretty fast after the other mods, and the tuned chip...

you want a sleep, swap a v8 in, and s/c that with various other mods...run some low mid 14's ya...then you got a sleeper :-).....if your gonna dump all that money on a S/c, just stick the v8 in there, its well worth it imo...my v8 is goin in about 3 weeks, then prolly wait awhile and supercharge it.

Well honestly, I didnt want a V8 because it sems like many people are doing this, (I know its for a reason), But I figured it would be more fun to do the less traveled route. I wanted to get over 200RWHP and hit some high 13's int he 1/4 ... So we'll see what I end up doing !!

Thxs for the Link James T!! It was very Helpfull ...

You're not gonna hit high 13s with 200rwhp unless you have 4.56 gears and stock tires, and even then you'll be hoping for a tailwind.

Thats why I stated I wanted "OVER" 200RWHP ...

you guys are funny some times. yes you can get a vortech to work on your truck and yes you can make more then 200 hp but you need to have all the supporting hardware to do so. give me a call after x-mas and i can help you out, right now i am leaving to go on vaction for a week ok. ohv is not the less traveled route as vortech and paxton have both made kit for that engine for years. going with a v8 is a matter or more money and more potenial to go faster but hey do what you want. i have a supercharged ranger with a ohv and i think it is cool.
