2000 Explorer 4.0 engine

ok heres the story.....2 years ago bought 2000 explorer(used)it has run fantastic till about a week ago when out of nowhere it stalled..... so started it up and it was ROUGH Idle rpm was around 500 or 600 then went up to like 1200 then then dropped to a smooth 900 so was thinking ok ....used car glitch..put it in gear and she died again....ok so far have replaced ...pcv valve, o2 sensor and M.A.F Sensor anyone got any other ideas? anything short of a grenade would be acceptable

Check the rubber elbow feeding the idle air control valve. It starts as a hard pipe off the intake and runs under and behind the throttle body to the IAC. It will shrink and dry rot and cause a vacuum leak. Getting lean codes by chance? PO171 and PO174?
