2003 XLT Engine Interchange

Hello,

I have a 2003 Explorer XLT with a bad motor and have been looking up motors on car-part.com.

The one that I have for my car is this:
4.0L (SOHC), (LHD), flex fuel (VIN K, 8th digit), 4 Dr, exc. Sport Trac

The truck is a 4 door XLT 4x2

From the search results it seems that I am only showing that motors form 02 and 03 Explorers with Flex Fuel and RWD show fitment. What is the difference in the motors from the trim levels and why would they not fit?

Flex-fuel engines can run on regular gas or E85. You will need another K vin 4.0 engine. Other 4.0 V6s engines may fit, however you may need to replace the engine with the same as what it was originally equipped with for emissions compliance. A 4.0 FF engine should run you in the neighborhood of $800 plus removal of the old, and installation of the new. If doing it yourself, you might consider regasketing the new engine before installation (all depending on your mechanical level and ability).
