ok so i have a 2003 explorer xlt. i was doing brakes yesterday and notice in the front that the drive shaft is not there.will that hurt the car. do i need it and does it affect 4 wheel drive.

Without it there is no 4 wheel drive. Only rear wheel drive.

Might hurt YOU, if it is AWD, as the vehicle can MOVE while standing in PARK. No, won't hurt the vehicle whether AWD or 4WD. The driveshaft may have been removed because it had bad (worn) parts, C-V joint or U-joint, and the "remover" knew the truck could be driven without it, without consequence.

Obviously (I hope) without a FRONT DRIVESHAFT, the front wheels can have no driving "effect", and the vehicle is a "2-Wheel Drive" thusly. imp
