- 2003 ford ranger fx4 lvl2
Hi guys, I own a 2003 Ford Ranger FX4 Lvl 2 with the 4.0 4x4 5 speed. I am replacing the engine on it and need some help. My current engine has a rear timing chain failure, and headgasket is also leaking oil. Its also high miles, so im going to be replacing it.
I am very determined to put in a newer engine in it..I've been looking at explorer 4.0's, Ranger 4.0s , etc. Have anyone got any input on what is needed ? From my current research and help i've come to understand that any 4.0 SOHC engine should work. So today I went to buy a engine with low miles out of a 2008 b4000 , and noticed the electrical connectors are different for it. What do i need to run a newer engine in my truck? I'd prefer to newer ones due to revised timing chains.
My truck has the Square style harness with the bolt that goes through it. The newer ones have two separate harness connectors I believe.
Pics below. Thanks for all the help!

As well I followed the guide on this site to pull my engine. Much appreciated.
