4WD low engages without input.

The other night I was backing out of a parking space and it felt like my 4wd engaged. As I pulled forward the low 4wd light came on. I stopped and put the car in reverse and then into netural and tried turning the 4wd control knob to low 4wd and then back off. The light for 4wd low went out, but the transfer case never changed. I drove home which was only about 2 miles. I tried changing it again out of low 4 wd drive but with no luck. Today I went out and tried the backing, neutral and rolling forward and it kicked out of low 4 wd drive. Is there some reason that the low 4wd engaged without me turning the knobs. Also my overdrive started to flashing. It has quite flashing after I finally got the low 4wd drive disengaged.
