I do not have your typical Explorer...but I do have an issue.
I have a 1935 Desoto which sits on a 1993 Explorer Frame and all running gear is the same.
has the 4.0 V-6 Engine from 1993 as well.
I noticed that the steering is "tight", feels almost bindy to an extent when driving as well as when engine is off.
Jacked it up last night...has nothing to do with tie rods, pitman arm etc.
When you have the car off, it is very hard to turn the steering wheel. Also when you try to push the tires inwards...it takes 4 men and 3 small boys.
As I was moving the steering wheel back and forth, power steering fluid started to gush out of the reservior. Checked and it is not over full.
Before I drop the column tonight and check gear box...does anyone have any other suggestions? Something I am missing?
Any help would be appreciated!
Power steering pump makes no noise, no smell.
