A4LD refresh parts?

I am going to change fluid and filter on my A4LD. At the same time i'm going to replace my vacuum modulator.

Is there anything else I can easily do or change to freshen up the tranny?
Should I adjust the bands if there is nothing wrong, or just leave them alone?

How many miles do you usually wait between fluid changes? What type of fluid do you usually put in? You could add a drain plug, and an extra magnet to the pan as an upgrade.

The scary part is I have no Idea how long it has been since the last change. I think it's been years since the last change. There is nothing wrong or slipping but I just want to do the preventative maintenance thing and clean, adjust, fix, and replace anything that I can without pulling the tranny. The tranny was replaced by ford 1999 or so... and i dought it's ever been changed since then.
