I got a 96 Explorer and sometimes when it is hot after drivin around town or on a long stretch of highway. when you get back in and try to start it it acts as if it is flooded like a carb car would. I have to just crank it over and hold the gas to the floor and it will start to crank spit and sputter than start. I pat the gas a few times and it will smooth out and drive just fine. Any suggestions on what is causin this? I have done a full tune up and it still does it on occasion.

Could be an intake leak... Have you tried testing it with carb cleaner by spraying the mating surfaces of the intake to see if run quality changes?
