Hello All

Does anyone know what the minimum brake pad thickness is for a 97 Explorer? Mine are down to about 1/4" but I can't find a spec anywhere that tells me what the replacement tolerance is. Any guidance would be appreciated.

welcome to the site... there is no minimum brake pad thinckness, its a part that wears out.... any thinckness at all is ok... if it gets down to the wear sensor and squeaks its time to replace them as this is an indicator that the metal of the backing is about to goucge the crap out of the rotor... 1/4" of pad left is a lot......probably around 30% of life left in them, more if you push it to its limit of right before the backing of the pads does damage

I agree, however for a point of reference, Ford's spec is 1/4" (3mm).
