anyone here get a strong shimmy through the steering wheel when applying the brakes lightly at a higher speed (55mph+) ? My 96 explorer has been doing this, I hope the rotors aren't warped. It does have ABS brakes. Any input appreciated...Hoping that turning rotors will solve problem. Thankx

Yes. I have this on my 94. I'm trying to ignore it. I tightened the bearing nuts some on both sides and thought it cured it at first, but may have been dreaming. I checked my rotors for runout on the vehicle with a block and wire arrangement on the floor. They seemed very true.

Sounds like your rotors are slightly warped. If they haven't been turned before then most likely turning them will do the job, however if they have already been turned and don't have enough on them, you are looking at buying new rotors.
