Ok, so i got a 1998 XLT with 109K and i can hear my catalytic converters rattling plus they smell a little. it's time for new ones. Here's the problem. i live here in california and emissions laws are a hastle. I've tried looking for direct fit cats from Car-sound (Magnaflow), Catco, Western, and Walker. None of which make California compliant cats. I got a quote from my local Ford dealer of around $1000 for a new set. I dont wanna get universal cats and i not about to pay $1000 for cats.
Does anyone know if using cats that are not CA complaint can cause me not to pass smog. I've found direct fit cats as low as like $180. i much rather do that. thanks people.
