I recently purchased a 2003 Ford Explorer XLT Ltd. It has no 3rd row seat but I would like to install one. Does anyone perhaps have a third row seat set that wants to convert to the cargo set up (trade)? Or does anyone know where I can purchase a 3rd row seat and all the hardware /trim?

It has a black /charcoal leather intrerior

I have a 2004 XLT and was wondering what was involved in changing the cargo area to a 3rd row setup? Is it just a matter of taking out the existing floor trim and dropping in the seats etc? Or not?

Its been talked about before – its Close - In my '04 I have the third row. Some have done it, best place to start would be to find a junkyard with the third row. You will need a least the 3rd row seats, seatbelts for it and you will also need the 2nd row seats brackets and/or seats. The 2nd row folds up and over to gain access to the third row.
Here some previous threads on the subject, hopefully it helps.

Mine already has the second row folding seats, so if it's just a matter of dropping the 3rd row in, then maybe all I need is the third row seat and the seatbelts. Thanks for the info.

OK - thanks. I see the threads but they are not conclusive as to whether or not it can be done with out changing the 2nd row. I have also not been successful in finding the thrid row at a junkyard (for less than $1000).

I thought of another way that would only involve getting only the third row. What one guy did was remove the middle seat in the second row (only two row to begin with) so it was like a mini-van. With the middle seat gone you can sort of a walk through to the 3rd row. Adults will fit but barely, best for kids. You still will need the seat belts for that 3rd row but nothing from the 2nd row. It might be a cheaper option. On a side note out of the 5 junkers with the third row the entire 2nd and 3rd row seats where gone, apparently a many others have the same idea.

The last links had pics of my Quad Buckets with 3rd row and the center console gone. If the 2nd row folds you may not need like jcuz says. I have never seen a pic of a 2row only brackets but if they are the same as mine it would work. Biggest thing is that there is a hole in the rear of the bracket for your feet.

Based on the link Curtis posted, those 2nd row brackets look the same as mine with the third row. To be sure do they flip down and over??? cant tell by the pics.

I have the 3rd row in my 04.

The second row back will flip down, then the whole seat flips forward against the back of the front seat allowing the passenger to step up into the 3rd row.
