I'm trying to remove the air compressor from my 2003 Ford Explorer 4L. There are regular bolts, which I can easily remove, and then there are 2 bolts, which I am able to remove the nut, but not sure if the threaded stud twists out like a regular bolt? Thanks for any help.

two will be threaded bolts, one will be a nut. similar to the 4.6.

Once I remove the nut, there is a stud remaining. How do I remove this? Thanks.

You should be able to double-nut it to then loosen the lower nut to unthread the stud

The stud should either have a Torx or hex end to it. Yours looks rounded.

The nuts pretty boogered up looking too. Is this how you found it?

Yeah, that's how it looked when I got to it. I assume someone has replaced the compressor before.

So I put another nut on it and loosen the back one and the stud should come out?

You ever get those studs out? I know this is a old post but I'm about to replace my compressor on my 97 5.0.
