There is a TBS posted on this site about the usage of Mercon V. I don't think that it all got posted or something is wrong with it. it doesn't make it clear as to which cars use it. for one thing it says ....For proper fluid application on current and past model vehicles equipped with Manual or Automatic Transmission or Transaxle refer to the Fluid Usage Chart (Figures 1, 2 and 3).

where are Figures 1, 2 and 3?

ISSUE

A new automatic transmission fluid (MERCON(R) V) was introduced in 1997 for use in some Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles. This new MERCON(R) V fluid is not used in all applications and is not interchangeable with others transmissions fluids that are currently used. Using the incorrect fluid may cause transmission or transaxle concerns.

ACTION

For proper fluid application on current and past model vehicles equipped with Manual or Automatic Transmission or Transaxle refer to the Fluid Usage Chart (Figures 1, 2 and 3).

lol that's helpful, no? PM the poster and ask him directly. I think it is safe to say that anything pre 96 is ok with Mercon III, the 4R70W's from about 95 on benefit from it. AOD's and A4LD's don't need it. Using V in place of III will not hurt anything, but it is a lot pricier. The issue is not using V in plac of III, but not using V and instead using III.

If you are newer than 97 use V.
