Ok I want to keep my 3rd row seat (2002), but still be able to install my system. I built boxes for the subs that fit behind the 3rd row seat exactly (with no room at all to mount amps). The only thing that is keeping me from installing the system is where to put all 4 amps, WHILE having all seats accessable and usable. I had planned to place the 2 larger amps under the interior panels in the back. However, now that the panels have been removed it looks like the largest amp might not even have enough room to be mounted behind the panel. Also, for the 2 smaller amps, I was thinking about placing them under the back seats (not 3rd row - there is absolutely no open space under the 3rd seat). I'm worried about water(from feet), people kicking them, etc... if i put them under the seat.
Also, I'm not able to cut or modify the existing interior trim.... which will be quite a challenge making it all fit.
sooo as for the 2 smaller amps...
Has anyone mounted amps under their seat, and did they have any problems with it as far as kicking/water(or pictures of it)?
and for the 2 big amps...
any ideas of good mounting places in 02+ explorer?

Right now I'm at school but this weekend I'll get on and post pictures to help describe what I'm talking about.
Hopefully some of you smart people can help me out!

if u can mount the amps to the underside of the seat so they are off the floor then theres no way anything can mess with it

although if u mount them on the floor and just put them as far back as possible i doubt anything will hurt the amps

the wires should not be toward any feet so theres really nothing that can hurt them

also if u have enough water coming in that it flows under the seat u need to beat ur friends upside there head =) lol

i think ull be fine with the amps under the seat..if u are really really worried about it just mount them on a peice of 3/4 mdf so they are up off the floor

good luck dude

any success finding a mounting location for your amps?

Hi psychotic,

wanted to see if you had any success finding some space to mount your amps? I have a similar problem...I need to mount a JL 500/5 somewhere...it's huge!, I was thinking maybe in the passenger side rear quarter panel. I haven't taken it off yet to see if I can modify it and have enough room back there.

Before I had an amp mounted to the back of the 3rd row seat....now I want to clean that area up so I can have that cargo are back. The driver's side rear quarter is not an option for me because I have a JL stealth box going there...
and you have a limited?...so you must have rear ac and alot of duct work back there for that....hmmmm

as for your floor mounting idea...I know it's a tight fit there, I have a 2002 XLT. I had a frind place an amp there and it's been ok....but there is definitely moisture concerns, especially up here with the northeast weather. If your amps are small enough maybe you can use some aluminum rod stock to bolt onto the seat mounting bracket on the floor...that way lifting the amps off the floor. I'd definitely protect the wires down there though...

why don't you just put three under the rear seat... i did it with my rockfords and never had any problems whatsoever, and then put the other two against the rear window, all your owuld have to do is fabricate an mdf board to fit into that location in the far rear windows and then make a custom trim panel to go over it...

mounting using mdf over the location of the rear windows might be an option.... thanks for all the ideas guys i'm gonna take some pictures in a lil bit

Here is the panel for the left side so you know how much it sticks out... the left side of the picture is the top, and the lip on the top meets up against the glass, so it is about 2 inches away from the metal that isn't part of the indention(if that makes sense).
