2012 Ford Explorer XLT
So we have a 2012 XLT with the light brown leather seats. I have noticed that in the seats it is starting to discolor and turn black some. we have 2000 miles on it. Is this normal? Has anyone else seen this? Cory what do you think?

Thanks Guys
Cody

Can you post some pictures? What parts of the seat? Stuff like this is mainly due to dye transfer from; clothing (jeans), other leather items (winter coat or belts).

Clean with a diluted solution of Lexol Leather Cleaner (orange bottle) and a high quality leather cleaning brush (Detailers Domain), then condition with Zaino Z10.

Cody,

The following tips can also be found on page 360 of the 2012 Explorer Owner Guide 2nd Printing under the INTERIOR section:

“LEATHER SEATS (IF EQUIPPED)
• Remove dust and loose dirt with a vacuum cleaner.
• Clean spills and stains as quickly as possible.
• For routine cleaning, wipe the surface with a soft, damp cloth. For more thorough cleaning, wipe the surface with a mild soap and water solution. In Canada, use Motorcraft Vinyl Cleaner (CXC-93). Dry the area with a soft cloth.
• If the leather cannot be completely cleaned using a mild soap and water solution, the leather may be cleaned using a commercially available leather cleaning product designed for automotive interiors.
• To check for compatibility, first test any cleaner or stain remover on an inconspicuous part of the leather.
• Do not use household cleaning products, alcohol solutions, solvents or cleaners intended for rubber, vinyl and plastics, or oil/petroleum-based leather conditioners. These products may cause premature wearing or damage to the leather.”

If you don’t have a digital copy of your Owner Guide, you can download one for free by going to the URL: http://Owner.Ford.com/servlet/ContentServer?pagename=Owner/Page/OwnerGuidePage and choosing the 2012 Explorer from the drop down boxes.

Thanks for the suggestions, Bill. :)
