Relay for LEDs using Rocker Switch?

I am installing 12V red LEDs on the interior of my truck to act as 'mood' lighting. I am putting a switch on the center console right next to the switches for my Hella's.

However I had a quick question.

Will I need to run a relay before the switch or can I just run the hot wire straight into the switch. The switch is a 16A 125VAC illuminated rocker switch, but I just wasn't sure if it was safe to run all 12 V right into the switch in the cabin.

Thanks.

If the switch is rated for 12 volts, and you are only going to run LEDs on the circuit then no you will not need a relay, just run the current through the switch.

Yeah. Just figured that out. It is such a small draw from the LEDs a relay is not required.

Thanks for the help though.

Yep, this is one situation where a relay is NOT necessary. Likely a relay will draw just as much current as your LEDs would. Don't forget to Vreg your LEDs. If they are 12V, they will suffer overtime as the car fluctuates from 12.5-14.5.
