speaker size

Can 6x8 speakers fit in my currnet 5x7 stock locations? I've been told yes with some cutting and no they can't, only 5x7. Can anyone give me some good news on the subject. Thanks!

As far as I know 5x7 and 6x8 are the same thing. In crutchfield my factory speakers are listed as 6x8 and I got 5x7s and they fit perfectly.

Well I guess thats why I got a yes and no answer! I was looking at some three way speakers for the front from crutchfield and they are offered in a 6x8 only. Thats why I asked.

We got a pair of Clarion Pro plates (6x8) and a set of Pioneer 5x7's and they were interchangable in our doors. You can get either size and put them in your doors (at least on the first generation explorer)
