Hi Folks,
i was last month in Colorado and had the chance to do some 4wheeling. I was surprised what a stock Explorer is capable to do - ok it was not Moab -
However, whenever I had to engage the 4x4 mode (hi or low) and the drivetrain was under a lot of load - i.e. the rear axle was really on loose ground, mud....-
I had this loud whining noise coming from the front.
4x4 disengaged - everything is ok
It seems that the torque applied to the front axle is causing this noise. Under normal driving conditions when the rear end is doing most of the job it's ok. But when the front has to provide a lot of traction it whines.
Is that normal?
Thanks for your replies.
