How do you determine if the driver side window motor is bad or if it is off track?

I have a 1993 2 door explorer 4x4

take the door panel and plastic screen off and look through the holes, if its making noise its probably not the motor, be very careful of your fingers, a lot of moving parts that can mangle your hands.

if its not, make the connector off the motor and using a test light to see if its even getting power before you buy a new one. also a good time to lube up the track/slides.

Also, is the window in the "up" or "down" position? My window got stuck down one time. I thought that the motor, the circuit, or something else had fried. Turns out that the motor just needed some "percussive maintenance"! (I hit it!) While you have the door panel off, and can see the motor, try tapping it with a hammer or something lightly while you are pressing the button to see if it's just "stuck". Make sure that it is getting power first, though! Good luck, and let us know how it turns out!

It is stuck in the up position.
