My son called today and said his 97 XLT was having troubling shifting out of Park. He would jiggle and push and pull and finally get it. Then he would try to leave it in neutral and leave the key in the switch so he could start it later. But sometimes he would forget and have to go through the whole thing again. I imagined a bad lock cylinder, brake light switch, solenoid, or I don't know what. But when I investigated, I found a loose wire on the brake light switch.
